Cyril (seemed to prefer) was the son of Edward Elston Rockwell and Sarah Edna Logan, who married circa 1894. The couple had four children—Ernest Paul (Jun 1895), Elma Vern (Sep 1897), Clarence Cyril (22 May 1900), and Earl Logan (12 May 1907).

When the 1900 Census was taken the family was living in Gillam Township, Jasper Co., Indiana, where Eddie Rockwell, aged 28, was farming for a living. Sarah, aged 25, reported that she had had three children. All three were there with their parents—Ernest, aged 4, Elma, aged 2, and Cyril, not even a month old, and still without his name. Earl would join the family seven years later.

The family was still living in Gillam Township when the 1910 Census came around. Eddie, aged 38, was busy with the farm. Sarah, aged 35, reported that she had had four children. There with their parents were Ernest, aged 14, Elma, aged 12, Clarence, aged 10, and Earl, aged 2.

On Cyril's 12 Sep 1918 WWI draft card, Cyril, aged 18, reported that he was living in Jasper Co., Indiana, and working on his father Ed Rockwell's farm. He was noted as being tall and slender with blue eyes and black hair.

The year 1920 found the family in the same place—Gillam Township, Jasper Co., Indiana. Eddie, aged 49, was tending to the farm. Sarah (noted as Sallie), aged 44, was tending to their home and the children. Still living with their parents were Cyril, aged 19, and Earl, aged 12. Eldest son Ernest had married Marion Frances Meader, the daughter of Ira Frances Meader and Eleanor McDowell. Daughter Elma had married Julius Nathaniel Marion on 2 Mar 1915.

After graduating from high school, Cyril attended DePauw and then Northwestern University, after which he entered the ministry. Cyril married Celia Willabelle Staley on 14 Jun 1929 at the home of Celia's parents George Stanton and Edith (nee Anderson) Staley in Plymouth, Marshall Co., Indiana.

REV. ROCKWELL WEDS PLYMOUTH GIRL ON FRIDAY

Following is a detailed account of the marriage of Rev. C.C. Rockwell of West Point, Ind., and Miss Celia Staley of Plymouth taken from the Plymouth Daily Pilot. Rev. Rockwell was formerly pastor at the Salem church and has many friends here.

At the home of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Staley, southeast of the city, on Friday, June 14th, at high noon, occurred the wedding of their eldest daughter, Celia W. to Cyril C. Rockwell of West Point, Ind.

Preceding the ceremony, Mrs. Glenn Lambertson of Lakeville, Ind., accompanied by Miss Katherine Garn, sang "The Day of Golden Promise" and "At Dawning". At 12 o'clock to the strains of Wagner's "Bridal Chorus" the bride and groom entered. The bride was attended by Juanita Staley, maid of honor, and Ruth Staley, bridesmaid. Harold Staley as best man, and Walter Staley accompanied the bridegroom. The bride wore a beautiful dress of white crepe and carried a bouquet of red roses. The maid of honor wore a delicate green crepe and the bridesmaid wore orchid crepe. The service was read by Rev. E.W. Strecker, formerly of Plymouth, now of Greencastle, Ind.

The bride is a graduate of DePauw university, a member of Phi Beta Kappa and for the past two years has been teaching in the Lakeville high school. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Rockwell of Francesville, Ind. He is a graduate of DePauw and Northwestern university. He is now pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church of Westpoint, Ind., at which place they will make their home.

Another event of importance that was celebrated in the Staley home on this day was the 66th wedding anniversary of Mrs. Staley's parents Mr. and Mrs. S. Anderson, who are the grandparents of the bride. Fifty-six years ago they were married in Sweden, coming to this country six years later, with their two children. A splendid talk of congratulations to the bride and the bridegroom of "yesterday" and the bride and groom of today was given by Rev. Ross-Shannon, pastor of the First M E. church of Plymouth.

After the ceremony a delicious dinner was served. The bride and bridegroom departed for West Point, Ind., and will be at home to their friends after June 15.

The guests at the wedding included: Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Rockwell, Francesville, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. Julius Marion and family, Francesville, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Rockwell and family of Fair Oaks, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Anderson, Plymouth; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Harsh and family of Plymouth; Mr. and Mrs. S. Anderson, Plymouth; Mr. and Mrs. R. Ross Shannon, Plymouth; Rev. and Mrs. E.W. Strecker, Greencastle, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Staley, Plymouth; Miss Katherine Garn, Plymouth; Mrs. Glenn Lambertson, Lakeville; and Mrs. Paul L. Kerns of Valparaiso.

Cyril and Celia had four children together—Wilda B. (b.circa 1931), Emilee Ann (b.circa 1933), Lavera Loudell (5 Mar 1936), and Thomas "Tommy" Richard (b./d. 6 May 1940).

I found their family on the 1930 Census, living in Wayne Township, Tippecanoe Co., Indiana. Cyril, aged 29, was the minister at the First Methodist Episcopal Church in West Point, Indiana. Celia, aged 23, was keeping house and supporting church activities. Daughter Wilda may have already been on the way.

When the 1940 Census was enumerated, the family was living in Shelby Township, Tippecanoe Co., Indiana. Cyril, aged 39, was noted as a clergyman. Celia, aged 35, was home with Wilda, aged 9, Emilee, aged 10, and Loudell (aka Lavera), aged 4. Celia was pregnant when that record was enumerated on 18 Apr 1940. Son Thomas arrived a month later on 6 May. Sadly, he did not last even a day. Sad times.

On 14 Jun 1979, Cyril and Celia celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. They shared sixty five years together before death parted them, first claiming Celia on 19 Apr 1994 at age 87. Cyril lived another three years without his helpmate and companion, departing this earth four days before Christmas on 21 Dec 1997, aged 97.

As for Cyril and Celia's children, Wilda married John Cochran, Emilee married Donn L. Groh, and Loudell married Roger Gene Clauss. Loudell passed on 18 Feb 2014.
