After high school, Nita moved to Milwaukee, where her first cousin, Theresa, lived. She moved to Santa Monica, CA and worked for a time in Los Angeles, where she was a civil service employee for the Air Force. While in L.A., she also was an official hostess at the USO Hollywood Canteen during WWII, under the tutelage of actress Lurene Tuttle.
She went back to Milwaukee in 1945 to marry Harold B. Weaver on September 15, 1945. Harold died of cancer in 1959, leaving her with two young children aged 9 and 4. After Harold's death, she continued her interest in local politics and was elected to two terms as the first female Treasurer of Muskego, WI for 4 years (2, 2-yr terms). She was also very active in community affairs, especially with the Muskego-Norway school district.
In 1965, she moved with her two children to Saint Petersburg, FL, where she worked as the Pinellas County Property Appraiser's Auditor in Clearwater. She retired from there in 1978. During her retirement, she became the first female officer (Secretary) of the Air Force Association in Orlando, FL and also was an officer of the association at the state level.
She lived a full and interesting life, despite the early deaths of her mother (age 41) and her husband (age 49). She lived with the attitude of "pick yourself up and brush yourself off" and by the Golden Rule. -- Information provided by her daughter, K. Weaver.
