Oren Varner, 93, of Warrensburg, Missouri, formerly of Windsor, Mo., died late Tuesday evening, October 6, 2015, at the Country Club Care Center, Warrensburg, Mo.

He was born on October 6, 1922, in Benton County, near Lincoln, Mo., on the family farm,the son of Luther Martin Varner and Lucy Catherine (Morgan) Varner. He was married to Mary Jean Reid on June 16, 1945, in Lowry City, Mo., and she preceded him in death on December 1, 2010.

Oren Lee was a graduate of Windsor High School and had worked at both the Superior Hatchery and Rusk Hatchery for a short time. He worked for the Windsor Coal Company and later the Peabody Coal Company in Windsor and Vinita, Oklahoma, retiring after 30 years. He enjoyed working on and restoring old clocks, photography, traveling and going on road trips looking at antiques and “eating out.” He and his wife collected Sleepy Eye Pottery and they were charter members of the Sleepy Eye Club. He was a member of the United Mine Workers, Grover Park Baptist Church, Warrensburg, and was a former member of First Baptist Church, Windsor.

Survivors include 2 sons, Larry L. Varner and his wife Mary, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; Jerry G. Varner and his wife Edna, Springfield, Mo.; 4 grandchildren, Melissa, Kim, Tonya, and David; 6 great-grandchildren, Clinton, Cordell, Brayden, Kellen, Loren and Sariya; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Olen Varner and Floyd Varner; a sister, Fern Balke.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m., Friday, October 9, 2015, at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor, with Dr. Randall S. Neal officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home before the service. The family suggests memorial contributions to Cross Roads Hospice and contributions may be left in care of the funeral home.
