Sylvia passed away September 26, 2015, in Buffalo Grove, Illinois at the age of 99. She was born September 22, 1916, in Hibbing, Minnesota, the daughter of Chris and Eleanor Hicks Christensen. She married the late Peter Stavnes on December 29, 1936, in Hibbing then moved to Chicago and worked as an Office Manager for B&L Lithography. Sylvia lived in Hawthorn Woods since 2012, moving from Mountain Home, Arkansas. She was a member of the Lady Elks and Retired Fisherman's Club of Bull Shoals. She was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church Altar Guild, Sunshine Club, Stephen's Ministry, and the Choir. She enjoyed working with and helping others.
Sylvia is survived by her son, Duane Stavnes of Hawthorn Woods, IL; four grandchildren, Scott (Nancy) Stavnes of Lake Zurich, IL, Mark (Janet) Stavnes of Mt. Prospect, IL, Paul (Amy) Stavnes of Murfreesboro, TN, and Kristin (Paul) Rosales of Chicago, IL and nine great-grandchildren, Megan, Kayla, Jonathan, Sarah, Taylor, Cade, Ryann, Elijah, and Jonah.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Pete, Andy, Les, and Dale Christenson.
Burial will be in the Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery, Mountain Home, Arkansas.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Arrangements are by Kirby and Family Funeral and Cremation Services.
