James W. Eakins
James W. Eakins, 72, of 367 E. Burnham St., was pronounced dead on arrival Sunday at Community Hospital, where he was taken after being stricken at his home.
Born in Dayton, Tenn., he had been a Battle Creek residence for 50 years. He had been employed by the G. O. Lewis Construction Co., retiring in 1960.
Eakins is survived by daughters, Mrs. Ruth Torrey of Albion, Mrs. Katherine Roop of 367 E. Burnham, St., Mrs. Percy (Beverly) Grider of 739 Betterly Road and Mrs. Gary (Patricia) Davison of McCook, Neb.; sons, James W. Eakins Jr. of Ypsilanti, Carl of Delton, Richard of 1023 Betterly Road, Marvin of 96 S. Mason Ave. and Edward of 2567 Hamilton Road; 25 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Della Gennoe of 12254 Beadle Lake Road, Mrs. Addie Brady of Dayton, Tenn., Mrs. Annie Thurman of 32 Mary St. and Mrs. Mary Roddy of Dayton, Tenn.; brother, Jesse Eakins of 715 Betterly Road, George of 43 Kenosha Ave., Charles of 715 Betterly Road, Robert of Battle Creek and Walter and Lee, both of Florida.
Services will be held at 1:30 p. m. Wednesday in the Hebble Chapel.
