Illness Fatal To J. C. Burch
A former Nashville resident, John C. Burch, 80, retired advertising man, brother of Dr. Lucius E. Burch, of Porter Pike, died yesterday at his home in Memphis where he had lived since 1905.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Lloyd Douglas Brown this afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at the J. W. Norris Funeral Home in Memphis. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery there.
The son of the late Col. and Mrs. John C. Burch, he spent, his early manhood in Nashville and while here married the former Miss Elizabeth Brown, daughter of Gov. John C. Brown. She died in 1903 and he married the former Miss Kathleen Malone in 1909.
Mr. Burch received his education at Emerson Institute in Washington. He went to Memphis in 1905 to join the advertising department of the Commercial Appeal, and later became advertising director for the nationwide Piggly-Wiggly grocery store chain.
He retired from active business a number of years ago, but served during the war on Selective Service Board No. 10 in Memphis.
In addition to Dr. Burch, he is survived by two sons, Brown and Charles N. Burch and a daughter, Miss Chloe Malone Burch..
