From Return of Death, City of Charleston, SC: Carl F. Bischoff was a 6-year-old white male. Although he was a minor, he died of "apoplexy" (an old term for stroke) and died June 15, 1860. He was a native of Charleston and lived at Meeting Street. He was buried at the "Amherst Street German Cemetery". After researching this, it would have to be Bethany Cemetery in Charleston. (See an online article on Post & Courier, 2/20/2009 for details.) According to the article, the Housing Authority purchased the property without knowing it was located where a cemetery had been. "Houses sit atop much of the former German cemetery but many graves were relocated to Bethany" Cemetery which is owned by St. Matthews German Lutheran Church.
