Louise Strickland, 91, of Abilene, passed away on October 3, 2015 in Abilene.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 6, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7, at Baker Heights Church of Christ, 5382 Texas Avenue, with Wes McAdams officiating. Arrangements are by The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Louise was born in Bangs to Willis Benton and Bertie Huffman Kellogg on September 25, 1924. She attended many different schools because her dad worked in the oilfield. She graduated from Coleman High School. She married Charles Strickland on August 20, 1943, in Coleman. She was primarily a homemaker, but worked part time at Grissom’s department store in River Oaks, as well as doing volunteer work with the Ladies’ Police Auxiliary, Christian Service Center, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and countless service activities within the church, spending over 20 years teaching children’s Bible classes. She was also very active as a teacher in the World Bible Study Program, grading jail ministry Bible correspondence courses and a supporter of Christian mission work in Zambia.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Willis B. Kellogg and Bertie Huffman Kellogg, husband Charles, brother, L.F. Kellogg of Gorman, sisters, Betty Dennis of Abilene, Willie Mae Burns of Killeen, and Jessie Lee Rister of Tye.
Louise is survived by her son, Don Strickland and wife, Susan, of Austin; daughter, Linda Strickland Beecher and husband, Bill, of Abilene; grandchildren, Justin Strickland of Katy, Zachary Beecher of Haltom City, Jennifer Spiva-Strickland of Austin, Jeremy Strickland and wife, Diane, of Round Rock, Jamie Bradshaw and husband, John, of Maumelle, Arkansas; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Holmes, Jerry Smith, Randy White, Gayle Potter, Justin Strickland, Jeremy Strickland and Zac Beecher. Honorary pallbearers will be Auslin Hassle and Bill Baskett.
Memorials may be given to Christian Service Center of Abilene and Zambia Orphans’ Home, c/o Baker Heights Church of Christ.
