Sidney Baker was born near Wheeling, West Virginia, February 7, 1824. She died at her home in Winterset November 3, 1907. When a small girl she moved with her parents to Hamilton, Ohio and in 1850 came to Burlington, Iowa. In 1856 she came to Madison county which has been her home continuously for 51 years. She was married October 6, 1857 to John S. White who preceded her to the other world November 14, 1900. To this union four children were born. Oliver M. and Mrs. Nina Russell now living in Omaha, Wilbur of this place and Winnie who died in 1882. Mrs. White was one of the early pioneers of Madison county. She was a woman of strong religious character, uniting with the M. E. church at the age of 13 years and living a life consistent with her faith and profession. Funeral services were held from the Methodist church on Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. E. W. ReQua and the interment made in the Winterset cemetery.
