He is survived by his wife of 44 years, the former Susie M. Araujo.
Thomas was born September 22, 1950 in Honesdale.
He was the son of Florence Beckwith Welles of Honesdale who also survives him.
Tom served in the United States Navy and was a proud veteran.
His favorite colors were red, white, and blue. He was a member of the Waymart American Legion Post 889.
Tom retired after many years of service at the Tobyhanna Army Depot where he was an Aircraft electrician.
He loved his family more than anything.
He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandbaby; they lovingly called him "Grumpy."
An avid genealogist, Tom was proud of his family legacy and served as the Treasurer of the Carney Family Reunion.
He is also survived by four children: Victoria Durst and her husband Steve of Maryland, Tammy Emmett and her husband Joe of Carbondale, Scott Carney and his wife Kelly of Equinunk, and Sean Carney of Honesdale; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Carl Welles and his wife Nancy of Waymart, a sister, Loretta Oakley of Carbondale, and a step-brother, Don Welles and his wife Florence of Equinunk.
Tom was also preceded in death by two brothers: Lee Carney and David Welles.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 6 at 11:00 AM at Jenkins Funeral Home-Edward Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, with Pastor Don Hickey and Tom's cousin Betty Ellen Barrett co-officiating.
Friends may visit on Monday, October 5 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Burial with military honors will be in Canaan Corners Cemetery on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Tom's memory to Waymart American Legion Post 889, P.O. Box 395, Waymart, PA 18472."
