Born Feb. 1, 1918, in Corpus Christi, Texas, he died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at Alexian Brothers Hospice House.
Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines.
Mr. Cortez was a retired pipe fitter for Local #597 and a veteran of the Army.
Survivors include his sons, Ricardo and Roberto (Bobbie) Cortez; grandchildren, Robert Jr. and Christopher; brothers, Alfredo (Anita) and Jesse (Lucille); sisters, Eva Rivera and Isabelle Esparza; sisters-in-law, Raphela Cortez; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (nee Burke); sister, Frances Maldonado; brother, Alfonso; and his brothers-in-law, Michael Rivera and Juan Esparza.
