Arthur J. “Art” Bergkamp, 89, died Oct. 3, 2015, at Wheatlands Health Care Center, Kingman.

He was born Dec. 25, 1928, at his parent’s home in rural Kingman County, the son of Henry and Elizabeth Kuhl Bergkamp. A lifetime resident of the Waterloo community, he was a farmer and gas plant operator for Occidental Petroleum retiring in 1988. Farming and trading cattle was his hobby.

He was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church, Kingman; a charter member of the Kingman County Historical Society and for many years was the sexton for the St. Louis Cemetery at Waterloo where he was instrumental in establishing the Veterans Row of Flags.

On Oct 27, 1948, he married Irene Welling at Waterloo. Other survivors include a son Alan and his wife Sharon; brother Melvin; grandchildren William and Christine Bergkamp, Mindy and Tim Richmond, and Elizabeth and Jay Johnson; great-grandchildren Mia, Carmen, Miles and Ruby Richmond, and Cheyenne Johnson. He was preceded in death by a son Bruce; brothers Tony, Leo and Jonas; sisters Pauline Schwieterman, Bernadine Strunk, Irene Youngers,, Emma Stockmer, Helen VenJohn and Mildred Bergkamp.

Parish rosary will be 7:00 p.m., Monday, at the Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman. Friends may call after 1:00 p.m., Monday at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the rosary. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Waterloo. Burial will be in the St. Louis Cemetery.

Memorials may be made with the Waterloo Cemetery Fund, the Kingman County Historical Society Endowment Fund and Gentiva Hospice Comfort Care, all in care of the funeral home.
