"Joseph S. Matlock died at his home in Beulah, Bienville Parish, on Sunday, November 24, 1901, aged 42 years, 5 months and 3 days. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Matlock, and was born in Bossier Parish June 21, 1859. In 1879 he was married to Miss Nannie Shaw. He leaves a wife and six children, a mother, four brothers and five sisters. He was converted and joined the Methodist Church in 1868 and in 1896 he joined the Baptist Church in which he lived a faithful and consistent Christian to the end.
