CASCADE, Iowa - Edmund L. Wieneke, 82, of 417 Second Ave., S.W., Cascade, died at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, both in Cascade. The Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wieneke farmed in the rural Temple Hill area until his retirement in 1979.

He was born on Nov. 22, 1918, in Temple Hill, son of Frank and Elizabeth (Rowan) Wieneke. He married Clara Manternach on Feb. 11, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cascade; she died on May 15, 1998.

He received his education from the former St. Martin's School, Cascade. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of St. Matthias Parish, Cascade, Cascade American Legion Post 528, and the Cascade Sportsman's Club. He was an avid fisherman. He was greatly loved by his family and friends.

Surviving are a sister, Dorothy "Dot" (Abe) Kurt, of Cascade; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred Wieneke, of Morrison, Ill., the Rev. Monsignor Albert Manternach, Francis "Skip" (Betty) Manternach, Sam Kurt and Sally Neyens, all of Cascade, Sister Ann Marie Manternach, of Dubuque, Monica Manternach, of Odessa, Texas, and Laura Manternach, of Cascade; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Gerald Wieneke, on March 3, 1999; his parents; four sisters, Madalyn Intlekofer, Irene Coyle, Lucille Besler and Inez Sauer; and two brothers, John Wieneke and Joe Wieneke.

An Edmund L. Wieneke Memorial Fund has been established.
