BIDDEFORD - Georgianna M Martel, 99, of Washington Street, died Sunday at Family Living after a brief illness. She was born March 22, 1901 in St Ferdinand d'Halifax, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Napoleon and Delvina Allaire Nolette. She moved to the local area as a young child and was educated in local schools, receiving an Honorary Diploma from Biddeford High School on June 15, 1997. Mrs Martel left school at the age of 13 to work to help her family. Her first job was caring for children of textile workers, five and six days a week, usually 12 hours a day. At 15, she began working in the textile mills and worked there for several years. On September 7, 1920, she married Francois Camire, who died February 16, 1930. She then married Thaddee Legere on April 12, 1936. He died January 16, 1958. On June 18, 1960, she married Octave Martel, who died April 27, 1968. Mrs Martel enjoyed traveling and playing cards with friends. She was a member of the Biddeford Senior Citizens and St. Joseph's Church. Her ten brothers and sisters died previously. Surviving are a stepson, Leo A of Kennebunk; two step grandchildred; and several nieces and nephews.
