Raymond H. Proserpi, age 93, of Passavant Retirement Community, Zelienople, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2011. Born February 8, 1918 in Tulsa, OK, he was the son Ernest and Anna (Ragsdale) Proserpi. Mr. Proserpi was raised in Springfield, MO.
After high school he enlisted in 203rd Coast Artillery and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands during WW II. During that time Mr. Proserpi was accepted to Officer Candidate School. In November 1948 he was stationed in Germany as part of the Allied Occupation after WW II. He served in Germany for 5½ years and continued serving his country until retiring as a Major after 28 years of service.
Following his Army retirement, Mr. Proserpi was employed by Equifax for over 20 years working in New Jersey, Virginia, and Florida. Following his retirement from Equifax, Mr. Proserpi was active in the Elks, holding the office of Secretary. He and his wife lived in Jupiter, FL for over 20 years before moving to Passavant Retirement Community in 1998.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen Schiavone of New Jersey; grandsons, David Schiavone of Maryland and Craig Schiavone of New Jersey; great grandchildren, Trevor Schiavone and Kayla Schiavone of New jersey. He is also survived by his step children, Marilyn Crawford (William) of Sewickley, PA, and Lawrence Miles (Nancy) of Maryland; step grandsons, Scott Crawford of WA, Douglas Crawford of GA, and Lawrence Miles, Jr. of CA, and step great grandsons, Colin and Dylan Crawford. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion, a sister, Dorothy Adams, and a brother, Robert Proserpi.
Friends will be received 2-4 PM Sunday at Boylan Funeral Home, Inc., 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, PA 16063. A Memorial Service will be held 11:30 AM Monday, June 20th in Seaman Memorial Chapel at Passavant Retirement Community, 401 S. Main St., Zelienople. Private entombment at Pinewood Memorial Gardens, Cranberry Twp.
