He and his wife were both 17 when they got married. That was 63 years ago. She had been Eula Mae Holder. Paul D. Gamble, a lifelong resident of the Swearengin area on Grant Mountain, died Saturday at the age of 80 at his home at 3092 Kelley Chapel Road. He had had cancer a good
while and had a series of strokes. His health was worse the last 3 months. He was a farmer and they grew
chickens. He was formerly a truck driver. He liked to fish in a pond on their place and also liked deep sea
fishing. He was a member of the Holiness Church. His parents were Claude and Annie Smith Gamble.
He is survived by his wife; 4 daughters, Lillie Ruth Newell of Ringgold, Ga., and 3 who live near their parents' home, Jodie Martin, Jeanette Gamble and Sherry Scott; 2 brothers [should have read "sons"], Ray Gamble and Burl Gamble, also of near Paul D. and Eula Mae's home; 2 sisters, Lela [Lila] Guffey of Skyline Mountain and Sally Nippers of Scottsboro; 17 grandchildren and
21 great-grandchildren. Rev. Junior Stephens and Rev.
Elige Holland conducted the funeral at the Kelley Chapel Holiness Church Sunday. Lowell Guffey, Ronnie Denson,
Daphine Clark and Wayne Guffey sang. The Grant Memorial
Chapel directed. Burial was in the Kelley Chapel Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Rickey Gamble, Timmy Gamble, Travis Gamble, Stevie Gamble, Adam Scott and Kippy Martin.
