Wootan, A.C.

A.C. Wootan, of Midland, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2005 at Terrace West Nursing Home.

He was born January 12, 1921 to Sam Houston Wootan, Sr., and Lillie Tennessee Henry Wootan in Mason County, Texas. A.C. was raised and educated in Mason County before enlisting in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in New Guinea and the Philippines before his honorable discharge in January 1946.

A.C. married Mary Dell Wright on June 18, 1947 in Mason, Texas. They moved to Midland in 1957 and raised their three children, Allan Wayne, Linda Cheryl, and Steven Kurt in Midland. He worked for Rogers Ford for 22 years. A.C. was an avid softball fan and was frequently seen at the Bill Williams Softball Complex watching his sons Al and Steve.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Linda Cheryl, sisters, Selma Elliott and Dora Gray, and granddaughter, Emily Buchanan.

A.C. is survived by his wife, Mary Wootan and his sons, Allan and Steve Wootan, all of Midland, TX; sister, Helen Sanders and brother, Sam Houston Wootan, Jr., both of Midland, TX; grandchildren, Robin Wootan, Andrew Wootan, Valerie Wootan, Sarah Lawhon, Jordan Wootan and Ryan Wootan; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 9:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Wootan, Greg Wootan, David Buchanan, Nathan Gray, Mike Lawhon and Mike Sanders. Honorary pallbearers are Robin Wootan, Valerie Wootan, Marty Sanders, Jordan Wootan, Ryan Wootan, Emily Buchanan and Sarah Lawhon.

Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association Greater West Texas Chapter, Mission Square, 4400 N. Big Spring #C-32, Midland, Texas 79705.
