Viva L. Hanna, age 99, of Decorah, IA died on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Barthell O.E.S.Home in Decorah.

Viva Lucille Hanna was born on October 31, 1915 in Forest City, IA, the daughter of Floyd and Hattie (Tannahill) Fischer. She was a 1934 graduate of Forest City High School and a 1935 graduate of Waldorf Business College in Forest City. Following graduation she worked as a bookkeeper at W.C. Hansen Hardware and Plumbing and also in the office for Forest City Produce.

On December 5, 1937 Viva was united in marriage with Reidar Hanna. They were blessed with one son, Monte Rei. They moved to Decorah in June, 1950. After her husband’s death in 1965 she worked in the Registrar’s Office at Luther College. In 1967 she moved back to Forest City.

After her return to Forest City she worked at the Forest City Elevator as a bookkeeper, and then took a job at Forest City High School. She was a member of First Congregational Church of Forest City where she served as Treasurer for several years. She also served on Forest City Board of Adjustments for several years. Viva especially enjoyed decorating and reading until her eyesight began to fail.

In July, 1993 Viva returned to Decorah and was a member of Congregational United Church of Christ. She made her home at Barthell O.E.S. Home since 2005.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Reidar on December 17, 1965.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM. Monday, October 5, 2015 at United Congregational Church of Christ in Decorah, IA with Pastor Laura Arnold officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Forest City, IA.
