CULVER - Dolores Mitzell, 86, of Culver, passed away unexpectedly at Saint Joseph's Rehab on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015, one day before her 87th birthday.
Dorry was born to Catherine and Fred Mumma in York, Pa. She graduated from York High School and soon after met the love of her life, Channing Mitzell, of Shrewsbury, Pa.
The Mitzells moved to Culver in 1961 when Channing accepted a teaching position at the Culver Academies. Dorry worked at the Academy Library and developed fond relationships with students, alumni, Academy parents, and friends of her grandchildren. She often baked cookies for the students to help them transition from home to the Academy, and Dorry welcomed many Culver students into her home for meals over the years.
Her husband of almost 64 years, Mr. Mitzell survives along with three children: Cathy Duke and husband Vincent of Culver, Chap Mitzell and wife Sallie Jo of Westfield, and Craig Mitzell of Culver. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Kemmie Mitzell, Katie Mitzell Fagan, Ashton Duke, and Jack Mitzell.
A private family burial will be followed in a few weeks with a celebratory Mass. The date is to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church in Dorry's memory.
Condolences may be sent to the family via the obituary page at www.odomfuneralhome.com.
The Odom Funeral Home, Culver, is assisting the family with arrangements.
