While providing care to the sick and infirm, Sister Agnes contracted tuberculosis. In 1918, Mary (Sr. Agnes) Griffin was assigned to teach in Stratton, Colorado along with a group of fellow Sisters of the Presentation. She returned to Dubuque in 1923 and died on January 22, 1924.
