Kathryn B. Cole, 94, of Alpha, Illinois died Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2015 at the Buell United Methodist Church. Burial is in the Alpha Cemetery. Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Friday at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Alpha. Memorials may be left to the Alpha United Methodist Church, Alpha Cemetery Association or the AlWood Food Pantry. She was born May 24, 1921 in Geneseo, IL to Charles and Grace Ringle Buell. She graduated from Geneseo High School and attended Browns Business College in Rock Island. On August 27, 1942, she was united in marriage to Sidney Cole in Geneseo, IL. He died in 1996.

Kathryn was a secretary at the Geneseo Pipeline prior to her marriage. During World War II, she worked in the map department as a secretary for the OSS in Washington DC (Overseas Strategic Services). She was a homemaker and assisted her husband in the operation of the family farm.

She was a dedicated longtime member of the Alpha United Methodist Church, where she served in many capacities and was currently the treasurer of the United Methodist Women. Kathryn was a charter member and past president of the Oxford American Legion Post #1197 Auxiliary and a board member of the AlWood Food Pantry.

She enjoyed volunteering, reading, cooking, playing cards, going to lunch with her “younger” friends and spending time with her family.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn (Philip) Roussel of Barrington, IL; Linda (Dale) Lanning of Alpha; one son: David (Julie) Cole of Alpha; 4 grandchildren, Kelby and Cody Lanning, Meghan (Steve Simpson) Cole and Clint Cole, 2 great grandchildren, Cole and Isaac; two sisters-in-law, Martha Plunkett of Peoria; Alice Wallin of Alpha; and many nieces and nephews.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, William Cole, two sisters, Barbara Searle and Elizabeth Stannard.
