Joseph “Allen” Gifford, Jr., has passed on to spend eternity with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 22, 2015, after a lengthy illness. Allen was born on July 30, 1934, in Bloomfield, NM to his mother, May Bloomfield Gifford and his father, Joseph Allen Gifford Sr. having passed away before his birth. Allen was “Baby Brother” to Willa, Vergie and Beth. Allen served his country proudly in the United States Air Force as an Airman Third Class and Clerk Typist. Allen later became a master craftsman, building many of the custom homes that stand today as a testament to the love of his craft. Allen played the guitar from boyhood for entertainment, and used it as an instrument of praise on earth until being called home to play for his Heavenly Father. Allen met the love of his life, Zella Hitchcock in 1954 and married her in 1956. They enjoyed 50 wonderful years together before Zella preceded him in death in 2007. Allen was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. Allen was loved and respected by his family and his many friends. Allen loved helping them in any way he could. Allen is survived by his children, Michael Gifford and his wife, Connie, daughter, Dottie Gifford, son, Jerry Gifford, daughter, Debbie Pezoldt and her husband, Doug and daughter, LaDonna Gifford, also numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 224 Mountain Rd., Grants, NM. A reception will follow. Private burial services will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Disabled American Veterans, www.dav.org.
