Betty Jo Hamby, a long-time resident of Lake Jackson, passed away on Sunday, the 20th of September , in Texas City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; and great-granddaughter, Lauren Lewis.

She is survived by three children and their spouses, Debbie and Eddie Minze, of Round Rock, TX, Jody and Floyd Rice, of Alvin, TX, and Kelley Hamby and wife, Chris, of Bend, OR; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Betty Jo was born in Palastine, TX, in 1932, to George and Winnie (Huffman) Dunnahoe. She spent her younger years in Pasadena, TX, with her brother, George Edward, and sisters, Jean, Marjorie, and Peggy. In 1951, she was married to the love of her life, Jim Hamby, moved to Lake Jackson and started their family.

Betty Jo began working as a teller for First State Bank of Clute and retired 35 years later as head of the note department and as an assistant vice president of the bank. During her time at the bank she made many friends and acquaintances in the community.

In her retirement she took great joy and pride in her home and garden as well as her cooking.

Betty Jo will be laid to rest on September 22, 2015, in a private service.
