Ida L. Thompson, former long-term resident of Bartlesville from 1955-1988, passed away Thursday morning February 2, 2006, at her farm home southwest of Checotah, OK. Among others, she is survived by her husband, Stanley Thompson who was employed by Phillips Petroleum Co. during their stay in Bartlesville. Ida worked as a Barber during the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Ida was born in a farmhouse in the Brush Hill area southwest of Checotah on November 22, 1934, to Thomas Guy and Mary Kindred Brandon. Interestingly, her death occurred on this same farm, but now from a new and modern farmhouse.

In the intervening years she led a broad, interesting, and sometimes exciting life. She was educated in the Pierce School, graduating in 1952 as Valedictorian. She attended Northeastern State College for about a year until she obtained her "MRS" degree in 1953.

Ida brought three children into this world: Diana Armstrong, Houston, TX, Kathryn Marmon, Houston, TX, and Kenneth Thompson, Owasso, OK. The Thompsons also have an adopted son, Larry Thompson, Wichita, KS. They have also been blessed with ten grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

During their 52 years of marriage, the Thompsons have worked and lived in Ames, IA, Bartlesville, OK, and Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. The Thompsons were in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm in 1990 and Mrs. Thompson was evacuated to the States for 3 1/2 months. Ida's goal had always been to return to the family farm upon retirement, and this was accomplished in 1994.

Ida was a Christian and was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She demonstrated her faith by her loyalty to the church and her many good works in her care and concern for her family and others.

A memorial service will be held at the Checotah Church of Christ at 12 noon on February 11, 2006. Kevin Stewart, minister of the Muskogee Church of Christ, and Everett Dunn, Minister of the Checotah Church of Christ will conduct the services. The Thompsons have chosen cremation with Ida's cremains to be buried in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Checotah. Hampton Mortuary furnished this service.

For those who would like to make a donation to charity in her memory, the Thompsons recommend: Hope Harbor (a Christian Children's Home), P.O. Box 1047, Claremore, OK 74018. Request notification be sent to: Stanley Thompson, HC 60 Box 1284, Checotah, OK 74426.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hampton Mortuary, 211 W. Okmulgee, Checotah, OK 74426.
