MRS. VERMILYA G. SANDS
Mrs. Vermilya G. Sands, 91, 4216 Wildwood road, Burlington Beach, died at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday at her home after an illness of four months.
Born in Gillam Township, Jasper county, Oct. 4, 1878, she was the daughter of Alphonzo P. and Martha (DeSelms) Rockwell. On Dec. 26, 1897 at Wheatfield, she was married to Clarence O. Sands, who preceded her in death in 1925.
Mrs. Sands had been a resident of Porter county for 43 years, coming from San Pierre.
Surviving are two sons, Theodore, Ames, Ia., and Martin, Berwyn, Ill.; five daughters, Mrs. Emogene Delcourt, with whom she made her home, Mrs. Lydia Delcourt, Valparaiso, Mrs. Hervie (Mabel) Lindahl, Chesterton, and twins, Mrs. Russell (Ruth) Steinhilber, of Hebron, and Mrs. William (Ruby) Logan, of Lowell; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister, two sons and three grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Wetmore Funeral home, with the Rev. Wesley Johnson, Liberty Bible church, officiating. Burial will be in the San Pierre cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday.
