Drue S. Martin, age 92, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2015. She was born and reared in Alexandria, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Barney and Annie Mae Singleton Abbett; husband, Gerald “Jerry” Martin; sister, Wanda Abbett Whitson; and brother-in-law, Darrell Crater.
She is survived by her sister, Peggy Abbett Crater; niece Cynthia Crater Bates; nephew Stephen Crow (Suzanne); and great nephews Matthew David Bates (Stacey) and Andrew Thomas Bates.
Shortly after her marriage to Jerry, they moved to Bunkie where he owned a service station. Later her husband worked for the Army/Air Force Exchange which transferred them to various locations that included Tacoma, WA, Yuma, AZ, Ventura, CA, San Antonio, TX, and The Republic of Panama in Central America. After retiring, they lived in Denham Springs, LA where she was an active member of Hebron Baptist Church.
Mrs. Drue Martin moved to Bunkie in 1995. She was a devout Christian and faithful member of First Baptist Church of Bunkie. She was always active in Woman’s Missionary Union and had a heart for state and world missions. She was also an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was passionate about honoring and supporting those who serve our nation.
