Billy Joe Banther, 64, a friend to everyone, was called home to be with the Lord, September 20, 2015. Wheelchair bound but never handicapped. He was a man of great strength.
He was born April 11, 1951, in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the late Clifford Austin Banther and Janie Elizabeth Hickman Banther. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Jerry Pelfrey.
He was a former employee of National Posters in Chattanooga and was a member of Mineral Park Baptist Church. A few of his greatest joys were his church and visiting nursing homes and picking his guitar and singing for the residents.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy "Patty" Banther, of Harrison, TN, two sons, Jason Peace, of Chattanooga, TN, Cody (Steffani) Stokes, of Ooltewah, TN, five grandchildren, three brothers, Glen "Tag" (Peggy) Holder, of Birchwood, TN, Bobbie (Jackie) Wardlow, of Hixson, TN, Lebron (Brenda) Banther, of Harrison, TN, three sisters, Diane (Ron) Barbee, of Cleveland, TN, Eva Pelfrey, of Harrison, TN, Charlotte (Jim) Luffman, of Deltona, FL, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Wednesday at Mineral Park Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Jones officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
