RICH CREEK, Va. James Lester (Buddy) Bailey, 81, of Rich Creek went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 13th, 2008 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.He was born in Crumpler, West Virginia on July 10th, 1927 and was the son of the late Wirt Randolph Bailey and Sadie Emily Shrader Bailey Walker. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by a stepfather, Otto Walker; a brother, David Maston Bailey; eight step-brothers, Bernard Walker, Mason Walker, Lacy Walker, Paul Walker, Jimmy Walker, Arnold Walker, Weldon Walker, and Ira Walker; three step-sisters, Sada Mae Simmons, Mary Helen Mitchem, and Beulah Walker.He served in the United States Marines and the United States Air Force, and was a former employee of Celanese Acetate in Narrows. He was of the Baptist faith, and loved his family dearly as a brother and uncle, always enjoying a good joke.He is survived by three brothers, Harold Bailey and wife Myrtle of Princeton, Jackie Bailey of Rich Creek, and Perry Bailey and wife Treva of Zephryhills, Florida; two sisters, Virginia Alice Phillips of Bluefield, West Virginia, Jewel Akel and husband Terry Brown of Wadesboro, North Carolina; two step-brothers, Landon Walker and wife Margie of Clinton, Maryland, Shelby Walker and wife Julie of Clinton, Maryland; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, including two special nieces, Bobbie Pennington and Alice Collins.Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 16th, 2008 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows. Burial will follow in the Shrader Cemetery at Niday in Bland County.The family will receive friends at Riffe's Funeral Service Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.The family requests that those sending memorial contributions, please consider the Giles County Relay For Life to benefit the American Cancer Society.
