Dora Cleaver Abell of Iola died Friday, Nov. 26, at St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita at the age of 85.

She was born Aug. 15, 1914, at Redfield, the daughter of John and Mildred Graves Chambers. The family moved to a farm near Xenia. She attended grade school there. The family then moved to Amoit and she attended the Williamsburg High School.

She moved to Iola and worked for 11 years for Litwin’s before moving to Topeka. After living in Topeka for 5 1/2 years and working for J.C. Penney, she returned to Iola and continued to work for J.C. Penney until her retirement in 1978.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge and Allen County Hospital Auxiliary.

She was married to Richard Cleaver and then later to Kenneth Abell, who died in 1980.

She is survived by two sons, Richard Cleaver of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Russell Cleaver of Iola; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Four brothers, a sister, two half-brothers and a half-sister died earlier.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel. The Rev. Waylon Ingle will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church.
