ARMINGTON JUDIE A. ARMINGTON The world has lost a truly amazing person. Judie Ann (A.) Armington, passed away on July 12, 2015 at the age of 71 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.

Born July 16, 1943 in Long Beach, CA to John Howard Armington and Lutie Ward Whitcomb, Judie spent her childhood in Lomita, CA, graduating early from Narbonne High School in 1960. She went on to obtain her BA from Cal State Long Beach, graduating in 1964 with degrees in Math and English; an MS in Systems Management from USC in 1972; and a BS in Computer Sciences (summa cum laude) from Park University in 1988. After teaching for several years in Salinas, CA, in 1968 she joined the U.S. Air Force, and was thereafter stationed at various posts including a tour in Vietnam (1968-1971); a stint as a White House Social Aide during the Carter Administration; and retired in 1989 as a Lt Col.

After military retirement, she had several successful adventures including as a Mary Kay Consultant where she rose to become a Director. She returned to the U.S. Government with positions as a Certified Defense Financial Manager-Acquisition (CDFM-A); Community Relations Field Specialist, FEMA (2004-2007) where she assisted in disaster relief; Budget Analyst (DISA, 2007-2010); and Program and Budget Analyst, EPA (2010-2014).

A long-time resident of Northern Virginia, most recently Arlington, Judie was heavily involved in her church as a Board Trustee, and sang in both the choir at First Presbyterian Church of Arlington and in the Metropolitan Choir where she annually rejoiced in participating in the Messiah holiday concert at the Kennedy Center. She was also involved in the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) in Arlington. Judie had a love of flying and flew her private Cessna across the US. She picked up and excelled in golf as a hobby and it became a favorite pastime, especially at her beloved Army Navy Country Club. She loved her country and was fascinated with the world around her, studying at least 8 languages, and recently making a language-emersion trip to South America. Judie was proud to be the author of the chapter, "Changes in Constituencies with the Repeal of Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and Don't Ask Don't Tell (DADT)" in Glimpses of the New Veteran: Changed Constituencies, Different Disabilities, and Evolving Resolutions (Carolina Academic Press, 2015). She won a myriad of awards both in military and civil positions. Another joy was showing guests the sites around the area.

Survivors include her sister, Joan Armington-Glasgow of Coos Bay, OR; half-sister, Marti Armington and daughter, Archie of North Hollywood, CA; niece, Robyn Glasgow-Greenlund and daughter, Linnea of Lake Oswego, OR; niece, Jana Glasgow-Ditmars and husband, Eric of Torrance, CA; many cousins, aunts, uncles and numerous friends from childhood, military, church and her many activities and community. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.

A memorial service and reception will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington, 601 N. Vermont St., Arlington, VA 22203 Attendees are encouraged to wear something with an animal print; purple hair is optional. Judie will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Cancer Institute in her honor specifically to be used in research for ovarian cancer.
