He was a member of the Bethel Holiness Church in Columbus where he had served as a Sunday School Teacher. In 2015 he was nominated as Father of the year at the church. He enjoyed puzzles, woodworking, farming, gardening and the outdoors. He married Connie G. Tichenor at Rodney Baptist Church on February 1, 1959 and she survives. Other survivors include his sons, Steven (Jewell) Atchley and Timothy (Pamela) Atchley both of Westport; his sister, Jean (Charles) Tichenor of Westport; his brother, Dwayne (Vermalene) Atchley of Greensburg; his grandchildren, Gloria, Clarissa, Darla, Becky, Laura and Tom and his great grandchildren, Austin, Adam, Breanna and Autumn. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Alma Eades and Opal Gentry; his brothers, Dale Atchley, Chester Atchley & Joseph Atchley. The funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 21, 2015 at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Pastor Nathan Shockley, Rev. Robert Thompson and Rev. Joseph Smith officiating. Burial will be at the Rodney Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home on Sunday.
