GUY LEE COLVER
Guy Lee Colver, second son of Joseph and Florence Shull Colver, was born in Lucas county, Iowa Feb. 8, 1883 and passed away at his home Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1958, at the age of 75 years, seven months and nine days.
He was born on a farm east of Chariton in the Bethel community and grew to manhood in that vicinity.
He was married to Ellen Dorsey in 1906 and they made their home on a farm until 1918 when they moved to Chariton where he was employed by the Central Iowa Fuel Co. His wife, Ellen passed away in July, 1934.
In 1935, he was married to Oral Barlow Colver. Their home is on East Auburn Ave. For 15 years he was a faithful employee at the Miley Funeral Home, his health forcing him to retire in 1957. He had been in failing health for several months but not critical until Monday, Sept. 15, when he was stricken with a heart attack.
He was a longtime member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge.
His mother, father and two brothers, Roy and Lester preceded him in death.
Besides his wife, Oral, he is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Emma Foutch of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Wilma Pixler of Des Moines and Mrs. Alberta Shaw of Hannibal, N.Y., four grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Flora Shimp, three brothers, Walter, Dean and Clarence, all of Chariton, and several nieces and nephews.
Guy was a loving husband and father and a good neighbor and will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
Funeral services were held at the Miley Chapel on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. John Bauserman and the Rev. A. E. Beals officiating. Burial was in the Chariton cemetery.
