MRS. MARY A SEARLES.

Mrs. Mary A., widow of Dennis B. Searles, died at her home on South River street, Wednesday morning, Feb. 5, 1908, of old age, after and illness of two weeks. Age nearly 83 years. She had a long sick spell last summer and fall but had recovered so that she was about as usual for the past few months.

Mary A. Edson was born in the town of Cherry Creek, Chautauqua county, N. Y., March 22, 1825. Her father was a native of Connecticut and served as drum major in the war of 1812, and was one of the first settlers of Chautauqua county.

She was married to Stephen A. Martin Nov. 16, 1848. They lived on a farm in Cherry Creek until 1865 when they moved to Lyle township in this county, arriving in March. Six children were born to them of whom three survive. Mr. Martin died May 11, 1884.

Mrs. Martin was married to D. B. Searles May 5, 1888, Rev. W. E. Stanley officiating, and they built the home on S. River street, where the family have since resided. Mr. Searles died Dec. 11, 1889.

Deceased leaves three children: William H. Martin of Austin; Lester S. Martin of Gilleese, Ore., and Mrs. Pearl Whitford of La Crosse.

Mrs. Searles was for many years a faithful member of the Baptist church. She was a kind neighbor and was hopeful and patient in the midst of sorest trial. Funeral services were held at the house Friday noon, Rev. H. B. Hazen, assisted by Rev. C. D. Belden, officiating. Interment at Woodbury.
