Mrs. Helton was born June 7, 1900 in Simpson, Illinois, the daughter of O. Arthur and Amelia Black Compton. She married John A. Helton on May 11, 1923 in Crown Point, Indiana. He died Feb. 28, 1956.
She also was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, four sisters and one granddaughter.
Survivors include four daughters, Betty Jo Patt, Lea J. (Paul) McEntire, Mary E. (William) Reynolds and Judith A. (David) Kidd; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Helton had worked at Lincoln Christian College cafeteria, Christian Village's kitchen and had done professional sitting in many area residents' homes.
She was a member of Lincoln Christian Church and its Yadnus class.
