Reno Gazette-Journal on May 27, 2009. Obituary: Olive Irene Wheeler Goodson. Irene passed away on May 18, 2009 at Renown Hospital. Irene was born on September 19, 1933 in Sparks, Nevada, the daughter of Charles E. Wheeler and Olive Irene Burgess Wheeler. Irene's mother and father were early day settlers of Sparks as her mother's family arrived in 1915 and her father's family arrived by a horse drawn covered wagon in 1924. Irene attended local Spark's schools until 1942 when the family moved to Reno where she was a member of the first graduating class of Reno High School in 1952. After graduation in June of 1952 she met her first time love of her life Gerald A. Goodson, who was in the U.S.A.F. stationed at Stead Air Force Base and after a memorable short romance they were married in Reno on November 15, 1952. The marriage produced four children, Gerald A. Goodson Jr., Gail Irene Goodson, Richard R. Goodson and Mathew S. Goodson. On May 12, 1966 Jerry and Irene were married in the Oakland Temple of the LDS Church. Irene retired from the U.S. Social Security system and Jerry retired as a Reno Police Officer.

Irene was preceded in death by her mother and father, brother, Charles Hugh Wheeler and son, Richard Brian Goodson.

Surviving is her husband of 56 years, Jerry A. Goodson; son, Gerald A. Goodson Jr. (Cheryl); daughter, Gail I. Goodson Smith (Steve); son, Mathew S. Goodson (Dodie); three grandchildren, Stephanie Smith, Ryan Smith and Shane Goodson and brother, Frank E. Wheeler (Loretta) of Sparks. The family wishes to thank all of Irene's medical care givers during her illness. With special thanks to Regent Care, Manor Care and Renown Medical Center. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 29,2009 at 12:00 noon in the Mountain View Mortuary, 425 Stoker Avenue, Reno, Nevada. A celebration of her life reception for family and friends will immediately follow the service.
