Merle Vernon (Coonie) Barron Sr., 85, of Siemon Lakeview Manor Estate, died April 15, 1981, at Siemon Manor. Born March 22, 1896, in Somerset, son of Edward T. and Carrie (Berkey) Barron. Also preceded in death by his wife, the former Marie Mosholder; a son Merle V. Jr.; five brothers; and a sister. Survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Reffner of Friedens RD 2; and Mrs. Lee (Betty) Afek, Tucson, Ariz.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Member of the First United Methodist Church, Somerset. A retiree of the H. W. Walker Co., Somerset, he was a veteran of World War I. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Richard E. Hauger Funeral Home where service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. John Cox officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park.
