BLACK ZION – Billy Joe Ray, 75, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, at NMMC-Hospice. He was born Jan. 14, 1940, in Pontotoc County to the late Robbie and Delma Ray. He was retired from Action Industries and had worked in maintenance at Trace State Park.

Billy Joe was an active member of the Masonic Lodge in Pontotoc a member of the Pontotoc Shrine Club, and President of the Lee County Shrine Club. He was Chief Rabban at his Temple in Marion. He was in line to become Potentate, which is the highest honor in the Hamasa Shriners. He was that special person who everyone could count on and was always helping to raise money for the children in Shriner's Hospitals . He so enjoyed talking to anyone about the mission of the Shriners. He was loved by many but will be missed by everyone.

Services will be 11 p.m. today, Sept. 14, 2015, at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home. Brother Philip Caples will officiate. Burial will follow in Black Zion Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his daughter, Lori Ray Hensley; three sons, Joey (Judy) Ray, Randy (Christy) Ray, Chris Ray (friend-Misty); stepdaughter, Debra (Scott) Massengill; sisters, Joy Brown, Gayle Fitzgerald and Debbie Pettigrew; seven grandchildren, Reaghan Hensley, Jeffrey, Jamie and Jeramy Ray, Dusty Ray, Jessie Ray Robbins and Kayla Ray Blanchard; ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Ray; his parents; brother, James Ray; sister-in-law, Naomi Ray; and sister, Eloise Coleman.

Pallbearers are Dusty Ray, Jeffrey Ray, Jamie Ray, Jeramy Ray, Dallas Cobb, Tim Conlee, Mark Chism, and Moe Robbins.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time today, Sept. 14, 2015.

Memorials may be made to Hamasa Shriner's Hospital , Transportation Fund at Hamasa Shriners, P.O. Box 365, Meridian, MS 39302, phone number 1-800-243-1361.
