Marjorie Springall, 95, Active Social Volunteer

Marjorie (Latimer) Springall of Fairfield, Conn., formerly of Malden, and active community services volunteer, died Tuesday at the Carolton Chronic and Convalescent Hospital in Fairfield after a long illness. She was 95.

Born in Springfield, she was a a former resident of Malden, Springfield and Andover.

She was a graduate of Central High School in Springfield, Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley and the New York School of Social Work.

A former commissioner of the Malden Girl Scouts, she was a chairwoman of the New England region of Girl Scouts and was a member of the national board of Girl Scouts.

She organized the first Springfield Guidance Clinic and was chairwoman of the Family Service of Malden.

Mrs. Springall was chairman of the Clara Barton Birthplace committee of the Association of Universalist Women. She was responsible for the maintenance of the birthplace, the operation of its camp for diabetic girls and later the construction and operation of the Elliot P. Joslin Camp for diabetic boys in North Oxford.

She was only the fourth non-diabetic to receive the Diabetic Medal by Dr. Elliot P. Joslin for her leadership in the Clara Barton Camp.

Mrs. Springall was a former president of the First Parish in Malden Universalist, the National Association of Universalist Women, the Council of Liberal Churches, the first combined organization of Universalist and Unitarian Churches, and the November Club of Andover.

She is survived by a son, Thomas of Southport, Conn.; a sister, Elizabeth R. Jackson of St. Louis, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral servives will be held at 11 a.m. today in the First Parish in Malden Universalist.
