Adeline M. Gulla of Melrose, wife of the late Patrick J. Gulla, died February 1, 2003 at Epoch Senior Healthcare Nursing Home in Melrose. She was 89 years old. A 52-year resident of Melrose with her family, Mrs Gulla was a longtime member of St Mary's Parish and served as prefect of the parish's Ladies Sodality organization on two separate occasions. For many years, she volunteered for the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association, helping to raise funds for those organizations, and served as a volunteer den mother for the Cub Scouts. She had many hobbies and interests, including knitting, crocheting, sewing and gardening, but none more important nor dedicated than her family. Mrs Gulla was also a volunteer for more than a decade at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital and was recognized by that organization for her long and valued service at the reception desk, in the addmitting and radiology departments, and on special projects. She served as treasurer of her husband's company, Mass State Construction Co., Inc, located in Melrose, and assisted him in the day-to-day running of the business until his death in 1977. The daughter of Italian immigrants, Luigi and Ernestina Ventura, was born in Lynn, Mass. on February 13, 1913. She married Patrick J. Gulla on January 30, 1935, and the couple had four children. The eldest Robert, of Westerly Rhode Island, passed away in 1977 at the of 61. She is survived by her three other children and their spouses: Ernest J. Gulla and his wife Marilyn of Andover, Marilyn L. Glover and her husband Kenneth, of Melrose and Richard P. Gulla and his wife Joy M. Camp of Melrose. In addition to her children, she leaves eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Mrs Gulla was the sister of the late Guido DeSilvestris, Augusto Ventura, Attilio Ventura, Argia Ventura Bresnahan and Anita Ventura Hayes. She is survived by one sister, Aida Butler of Manassas, Virginia. Donations in her memory may be made to either St Mary of the Annunciation Parish, 46 Myrtle St, Melrose, Mass 02176 or to Melrose - Wakefield Hospital, 585 Lebanon St., Melrose, Mass. 02176. Funeral arrangements were made from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W Foster St Melrose, Mass.. Interment at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose
