Varla C. Aden, 94, of Scottsbluff, died Friday, November 21, 2008 at Heritage Estates in Gering, NE.

Varla was born November 25, 1913 in Adams, NE to Ben F. and Eulalia A. (Gandee) Reed. She received her education in Adams, NE and graduated from high school in 1932.

She married Lorin A. Aden in 1935. They lived in Sterling, NE and Tecumseh, NE before moving to Scottsbluff in 1941.

She was employed at the Eagle Café for 13 years, Baumgartner Variety Store for 20 years and after her retirement in 1978 she was a Foster Grandparent until 1989.

Varla moved to The Village at Regional West in 1994, to Beverly Square in 2000 and to Heritage Estates in May of 2008. Varla’s family wants to thank the staff and residents of Heritage for all of the love and support they gave to her.

She loved to knit, crochet, and quilt. Her family was always #1 and the Huskers were #2. One of her proudest moments was when her son Harlan was named to the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame and she was able to meet Tommie Frazier.

Varla always had a positive and upbeat attitude. She loved playing cards and dominoes and loved to win. She was a member of First United Methodist Church for over 75 years, United Methodist Women, and Builders Sunday School Class, member and past president of Business and Professional Women, Twin City Toastmistress Club, T. O. B. Project Club, AARP and Regional West Hospital Auxiliary where she worked many hours in the gift shop.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son Roger.

A private family graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park.
