Lolo J. Rodriguez


Lolo J. Rodriguez, 90, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday morning, September 10, 2015, at Shepherds Residential Nursing Home.

He was born on April 7, 1925, in Atchison, Kan., son of Jesus and Inez Rodriguez.

He was drafted in high school to the Army and served in WWII. He was in Company "A" 316th Engineer Battalion and served in North Africa, Italy and Germany. After the war, he returned home and began his career as printer at the Atchison Globe, then he began a long career at the St. Joseph News-Press, along with his new bride, Socorro (Cruz), of St. Joseph. He was employed there over 45 years before retiring.

He was married on November 26, 1949, at Holy Rosary Church, to Socorro. From Holy Rosary to St. Patrick, they shared 65 years, along with raising five children.

He was a beloved father, grandfather, great- grandfather and a husband, who dearly loved his wife.

She preceded him in death February 19, 2015. He now joins the love of his life.

He was preceded in death by: his son Mark; his parents; three brothers, Earnest, Salvador, Raymond; and two sisters, Rita and Sarah.

Survivors include: son, Jesse Florentino Rodriguez, of the home; son, Jerry Rodriguez, of St. Joseph; daughter, Theresa (Fred) Craigmiles, of Rich Hill, Mo.; daughter, Mary (Billy) Parker, of Gower, Mo.; brother, Richard Rodriguez, of Kansas City, Mo.; and sister, Esther; 15 grandchildren, 15 great- grandchildren.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Father Eric Schneider Celebrant.

The Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m., Monday, at the Rupp Funeral Home, by Deacon Marcelino Canchola.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, at the Rupp Funeral Home.

The interment will be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Memorials are requested to the St. Patrick Catholic Church.
