Richard D. Sickels, 71, of Coldwater, Mich., died Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at the Community Health Center of Branch County in Coldwater.

Mr. Sickels was born April 28, 1933, in Bronson, Mich., to Claude Maurice and Emma Irene (Spade) Sickels. He married Ila M. Clearwater on Nov. 29, 1952, in Angola. She survives.

He grew up in Steuben County, and was raised by his grandparents, Emery and Gertrude Spade. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-56. He worked at Voltek in Coldwater, and retired in 1996.

He was a 1951 graduate of Fremont High School. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, fishing and photography.

Also surviving are two sons, Jeff Sickels and Rodney Sickels, both of Coldwater; a brother, Durwood Sickels of Jamestown; a sister, Dorris Smith of Angola; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Indiana time on Saturday at Putnam Funeral Home, Coldwater, with Pastor Matt Sargent of the East Ovid United Brethren Church officiating. Calling will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Burial will take place at a later date.

Memorials are to the charity of one's choice.
