MEETS DEATH ON BIRTHDAY

MISS AMY ALLEN OF NORTH COURT STREET DIED AT ST. ANTHONY HOSPITAL ON THE TWENTY-THIRD ANNIVERSARY OF HER BIRTH-EMPLOYE [Employee] OF BURSON KN ITTING COMPANY, AND MUCH ESTEEMED YOUNG WOMAN.

On the 23rd anniversary of her birth Miss Amy Allen died last evening at the time were Miss Pearl Chamberlain and Mrs. Horace Buker two of her best friends in this city, but her relatives residing in Beloit and vicinity arrived a few moments too late.

The seriousness of Miss Allen's malady was not known until 3:30 o'clock when an internal abscess broke and resulted in septic-peritonitis, which proved fatal at 9:20 o'clock. An operation had been performed in the morning and owning to the difficulty of locating the abscess an d its position it was decided not to attempt further relief at that time. At half past three the change for the worse began and a second operation proving necessary her relatives were at once notified of her condition.

Miss Allen recently left the Nelson Knitting Company employ for that of Burson's where she worked at piece work in the shipping department. She seldom missed an hour from her work and when forced to give up work Thursday noon put in the afternoon driving with another of the girls employed at the factory. Friday and Saturday she remained at home and Sunday a doctor was secured for her although she thought is unessary [unnecessary], believing that she was suffering from stomach cramps which had previously troubled her. It was thought at first that she would be around again in a week and by the direction of the physical she was taken Sunday night to St. Anthony Hospital to prepare for the operation, from the residence of Mrs. Horace Buker on North Court Street, where for a year she had made her home.

She was the daughter of Mrs. Ester Allen of Beloit, but had been employed in this city for about three years. Her father who died some time ago was a Methodist minister. Mrs. Ella Myers with her husband and Henry Allen of Beloit arrived in town shortly after the death of their sister and no notice was sent until then to another brother, Wesley Allen of Elgin as Rockford friends did not know of his name or address. The funeral will be held at Beloit. It was impossible to reach the mother of Miss Allen last night as she had gone to the north of Beloit to look after a sick friend and did not know of the sickness of her daughter.

A friend today spoke as follows in tribute to the character of Miss Allen:
"Miss Allen was a young woman whom all liked. She was ever modest and had little to say though all who became her friend were given in return an affection and loyalty unusual. She did not believe that she was about to die and did not know it when unconsciousness came for the last time, but although and end was made to many happy plan d by the untimely death, she would have died as she lived, without a question as to the wisdom of it all and with sublime confidence in the Christian religion by the precepts of which her every act was guided."

The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, from the residence of her sister, Mrs. Etta Myers, 729 Brook Street, Beloit. He brothers and sister left this afternoon on the Milwaukee road with the body. Interment will be at Beloit Cemetery. A large number of Rockford friends will attend.
