Alvis Ward, age 97, of Russellville, the widow of David Franklin Ward, died Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Legacy Lodge Nursing Home. A daughter of the late Daniel Boone and Sarah Jane Bailey Waldrep, she was born April 29, 1911 in Polk County, Texas. She was a homemaker and a mother, and was a member of East Point Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her brother and all of her sisters.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law: Richard Neil and Irene Ward of London; and Raymond Derrel and Betty Ward of Shawnee, Oklahoma; six grandchildren: Marcia Gray and her husband, Kennith, Gary Ward and his wife Marsha; Dennis Ward and his wife, Pam, Preston Ward and his wife, Candy, Tammy Hass and Ronnie Ward; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service and burial will be at 10 A.M. on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at North New Hope Cemetery north of Dover, officiated by the Rev. Don Erwin. Arrangements are by Shinn Funeral Service.
