Julia Ledora Luznicky

Former Chetopa, KS resident, Julia Ledora Luznicky, 89, passed away September 7, 2015 at St. John Health System in Tulsa, after an illness.

She was born May 13, 1926 in Banzet, OK; a small community of rural Welch. She was the daughter of Juan Newton Corn and Artie Ledora (Ellis) Corn.

She was a graduate of Chetopa High School, Class of 1944.

Julia began working for the Census Bureau where she would unknowingly befriend her future sister-in-law.

She was introduced to Lee Beran, and the couple was married in 1956. In 1960, they moved to Wichita where Lee worked, later returning in 1967 to Chetopa where they would raise their family.

Julia and Lee had two beautiful children, John and Krista. When the kids were young, Julia loved to entertain. She would pack picnic lunches and head off with her family on fishing trips. One of her favorite past times was sitting on the riverbank reading a good book.

She was active in the community, helping with various clubs such as the Jaycee’s and Chamber. She was part of the alumni association for ten years and helped with John’s Boy Scout troop. With her love of music, she was never to late to play a couple of her favorite tunes, “Under the double eagle” and of course, the school song.

She worked for Labette County Insurance and also worked as a bookkeeper for Tri City Gas Co.

She was known for her participation in activities of her home church as well. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church of Chetopa. She taught and played the piano for the Jr. Choir as well as the Christmas Cantatas over the years.

She later attended the United Methodist Church of Miami where she continued her talents and ministry of music.

In 1982, after 26 years, Lee preceded her in death.

In 1983, Julia married Milan Clarence Luznicky.

The couple moved back to Wichita for employment, returning in 1989 to Chetopa where Julia worked for Kernard’s Pecan Co. near Melrose.

She continued her love for music, finding that Milan had the same love. The two enjoyed listening to the oldies, especially swing music on their favorite radio and television programs, the Bill Miller Show and the Lawrence Welk Show.

The couple would have 27 years together before Milan’s passing on July 2, 2009.

Julia’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family. Especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her many nieces and nephews. They all held a special place in her heart.

Julia was also preceded in death by her parents; 1 grandson, Stephen; 1 brother; 3 sisters; and 14 half-brothers and sisters.

She is survived by 1 son, John Beran and his fiancé Karrie Leever of Tulsa; 1 daughter, Krista Warstler and husband Randy of Erie, KS; 3 grandchildren, Jayson and Stepheny Warstler, and Tricia Beran; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Winona (Noni) J. Bates of Augusta, KS; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 10, 2015 at the Thomas Funeral Home, Welch, OK.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 11, 2015 at the Thomas Funeral Home, Welch, OK. Pastor Randy Frazier will officiate.
