Walter came to Miami from Shawnee County, Kansas late in life, after his wife, Delia, died in 1921, to live with his step-son, Cecil W. Noel, at 1321 S.W. 4th St. Cecil was a building contractor in early Homestead. Walter's father, Allen, was born February 7, 1809 in Missouri and his mother, Narcissa S. Kimbrell, was also born in Missouri. Walter was married twice - his first wife died in 1874 and he married Delia Noel on December 25, 1893, who had at least 6 children by her first husband, David.

Allen's father, Jacob, died in Bollinger County, MO on November 2, 1858.

One of Walter's brothers, Landon Taylor Yount, born January 20, 1849, is buried in Kansas City, Kansas. His Find A Grave memorial is: 94928992

Julian Yount and his wife, Laura Marilyn, are buried in Palms Memorial but their relationship to Walter is unknown.
