Civil War Union Soldier. He was a 42 year old shoemaker when he was mustered in as a Private in Company H, 3rd Pennslvania Reserves (32nd Pennsylvania Volunteers) on September 3, 1862. He served with the Reserves until July 5, 1864, when he was transferred to Company A, 54th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He served through the end of the war, and was honorably discharged on May 31, 1865.
