COTTONWOOD - A Cottonwood woman was killed Saturday night in a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident. Amy Strange, 51, was walking southbound and crossed the highway from the east side of Sixth Street when she was struck by a vehicle headed east on the highway.
The 16-year-old male driver from Clarkdale stopped his compact sedan at the accident scene to call 911 after the 7:20 p.m. accident.
Fire crews found the woman not moving in the roadway and began CPR. She was taken to Verde Valley Medical Center where emergency room staff continued to attempt rescue before she was pronounced dead about an hour later.
The young driver told police that he had a green light and the right of way and that the woman crossed the highway against the light. Police spokesman Gareth Braxton says neither drugs nor alcohol was involved with the driver.
Police were not able to find any other witnesses who saw the accident.
