Patrolman with the Kankakee City Police Department for 1 year. Killed in the line of duty. Patrolman Samfay had made what should have been a routine traffic stop. As he was walking back to his patrol car with the violator's license, the assailant exited his car and shot Patrolman Samfay five times in the back. The assailant left his license in Patrolman Samfay's possession. He was later arrested without incident after car-jacking another vechile.
